Regulations on shipping vitamin supplements etc.

To Germany from elsewhere within the EU

Good morning,
As I understand the law here Germany is incredibly strict on what they allow to be brought into the country. I have had a few packages containing supplements confiscated when sent from the US.
I was wondering if I might have better luck ordering what I can from the UK given that it's part of the European Union. (?)
I would really appreciate any ideas or information on this from anyone who has had some experience with this.
Although there are some great things about the German health care system, there are simply some products that are just not available here and which I, unfortunately, need due to a pretty serious health problem.
Thanks ...
Katrina
I order from Biovea without any issues - I use the UK site as it is cheaper than the German one.
Have used them for the past couple of years without problems.

I lost hundreds of Dollars in confiscated shipments earlier this year. Products typically from Solgar, which I had imported previously.
The money gouging pharmaceutical industry in the EU sponsored laws that even restrict the import of vitamins. Since they are generally cheaper overseas.

There is also no longer the option of claiming them for personal use. Customs seizes almost everything. You can't even send it back, since the fees charged for shipping things back are in excess of 100 Euro.

I think it depends on WHAT you are shipping. My mother shipped me multi vitamins and also a big jar of calcium tablets - the package was stopped in Customs but all I had to do was go there, open the box and tell them what it was. It was no problem.

Supplements are much cheaper in the U.S. but you don't know what you are getting. The industry is not regulated by the Food and Drug Admin. I prefer to pay more and buy them here.

There's also quite a bit of price variance inside the EU, which is also why I tend to buy Centrum in Schipol duty free when I travel through there. Doesn't have to be bought in a pharmacy either, so do a price check before you travel or shop.
