Points in Flensburg on a U.S. driver's license

Repercussions when switching to German licence

My husband got caught speeding in one of those (community coffers filling) speed traps. Basically he failed to slow down on the Autobahn from 120 to 70 quickly enough and earned himself 3 points in Flensburg. At least the fee is minor compared to the bank breaking kind in the US. My question is this:

He has one of those US licenses that can simply be switched over to a German one without any extra training. I don't think that having the points should have any repercussions on that process (which we were planning to do in January).

Am I wrong about that?

If he has only the three points, then it won't be a problem but he'll have the points for 2 years assuming nothing else is added. The real "fun" starts usually with 14 points, unless drunk driving or a serious accident is involved.
